PROFILE OF FOUNDER

Abdul Mutakabbir is the Founder and Director of the SWAM Academy of Modern Martial Arts. The original SWAM, located in South Jamaica, Queens, was established in 1977, in one of New York City's most notorious neighborhoods. Mutakabbir's vision to help individuals, families, and communities has found expression and thrived through SWAM. In 1992, SWAM successfully expanded its operation to the Atlanta, Georgia metropolitan area.

Mutakabbir is virtually a life long martial artist. He has studied numerous fighting systems tutored by some of the most renowned martial artists in history, starting at the age of eleven. He has earned countless titles throughout the country, combining constant study, work, and commitment to be one of the best. His dedication has made him the New York State Triple Crown Champion for 20 years

One of the most respected martial artists in the world, Mutakabbir has created the FuJuKa Boxing System, which is taught at his Academy. This style combines various styles of martial arts and emphasizes practical street fighting for self defense.

Mutakabbir's greatest awards were not received through trophies and medals, but from the letters written by SWAM's students who have achieved better lives under his influence.

Mutakabbir is also renowned for his tireless community involvement. His success at cleaning one of New York's roughest neighborhoods of drugs has earned him both recognition and feature treatment on New York radio programs, as well as, coverage on PBS with Bill Moyers.

Mutakabbir's wife Na'Quavaha, is a renowned martial artist and is a former New York State champion herself.  Together, with their five children, they emphasize a family approach at SWAM.
